What is a Banana Sapling?
A banana sapling is a sapling that will be planted to grow bananas at home or in a suitable environment. Banana likes moist and warm environments and is very picky about soil. The region where the most bananas are produced in the world and seen as the homeland of bananas is the South Asian countries. The hot and humid climate-loving banana is grown in Turkey in the southern coastal areas, especially in Mersin and Antalya. Although the banana is a warm climate fruit, it is grown during the winter months. Harvest continues from late autumn to early spring.
There are many types of banana that are consumed both as cooked and fresh fruit or traded as an ornamental plant, and the date of agricultural cultivation, which was made in Turkey for the purpose of eating banana fruit, was not recorded until the first years of the Republic.
However, in 1935 and 1938, the species brought from abroad by individual initiatives were planted and cultivated since then.
Bananas produced in the world; 41% are “Cavendish”, 14% are “GrosMichel”, 21% are “Plantain” groups and 24% are cooked banana groups. In the cultivation of bananas in our country, until the last 10 years, only the dwarf Cavendish (Dwarf Cavendish) banana clone was used in the garden facility, but today, the clone of “GrandNain” is also grown.
